Mission

FIOH through empowering people- for sustainable and environment friendly livelihood development will facilitate an enabling environment for women, youth, children to achieve positive changes in their lives and facilitate to resolve and minimize their problems through active participation in decision making process, through networking and policy lobbying.

The core in the vision statement is the unique orientation of the organization towards a just and poverty free society. FIOHDF is an organization that is working with the poor and marginalised. It believes that making the poor stronger and be active participants in the development process creates an environment for better society. In the centre of the vision is that the poor and marginalised are discriminated in the decision making process. FIOHDF believes and intends that working towards a just society, mean a right-based approach in which they enjoy the rights, which in present are enjoyed only by the affluent classes.

A brief introduction to the FIOH

Future in Our Hands Development Fund (FIOHDF) is a non-profit, non governmental organisation registered in Sri Lanka established in 1984. It is working in 3 districts in two provinces of the country and with all three major communities, the Sinhalese, the Tamils and the Muslims.

FIOHDF was registered in 1989 under the Social Services Organisations Act and in 2009 as a non-profit making entity under the Companies Act.

The objectives of FIOHDF include: 

  • Mobilise rural and plantation poor
  • Build their organisational capacity and link them with external support services
  • Promote sustainable development through revitalisation of traditional agriculture.
  • Offer support services in order to make the community self reliant
